The Simple Morning Habit That Saved My Sanity as an Overstimulated Millennial Mom

If your mornings feel like chaos wrapped in caffeine… same.
There was a time where I would open my eyes and immediately feel like I was already behind.
Kids talking. Dogs barking. Bunny thumping. Chickens screaming at the window like unpaid alarms.
And don’t get me started on the mom brain mental load that hits before I even find my slippers.
But recently, I added one tiny habit that genuinely shifted my whole morning mood. And honestly, my whole day.
It’s simple. It’s doable. And it works even if your life looks like a mix of motherhood, pet mom chaos, content creation, and rural farm living.
⭐️ The Habit: A 3-Minute “Grounding Reset” Before I Touch Anything Else
I know.
Three minutes sounds almost offensive when your kids are already arguing about a granola bar.
But hear me out.
This isn’t meditation.
It’s not journaling.
It’s not sitting in silence (LOL, we don’t get that).
It’s simply this:
👉 Step outside. Even just onto your porch, and take 10 deep breaths.
That’s it.
No phone.
No scrolling.
No immediate “I need to do _____ today.”
Just breathing + hearing real sounds + letting your nervous system catch up.
It’s the fastest way to calm an overstimulated brain because:
you get sunlight
your cortisol reset begins
your brain switches from reactive → grounded
your mood lifts
you feel more patient with your kids
And the best part?
You can do it with your coffee.
You can do it in pajamas.
And your chickens or dogs can absolutely join.
⭐️ The Tools That Made It 10x Easier (and more enjoyable)
Here’s what actually made me look forward to it:
✔ My morning coffee setup
https://walmrt.us/4r4hmwiIt sounds dramatic, but having coffee that tastes good makes me actually want to step outside.
✔ A cozy mug
https://walmrt.us/3X7rDu1 Millennial mom comfort item. Non-negotiable.
✔ My favorite slippers
https://walmrt.us/49ZEEgQ Because stepping outside on dew soaked farm grass barefoot is not the vibe anymore.
✔ A small outdoor chair
https://walmrt.us/3Kcdjxu Even if it's just the porch, having a little “mom corner” matters.
✔ A mini notebook for brain dumps (optional)
https://walmrt.us/3MbCZe8 If your brain won’t stop screaming reminders at you, write them down after your breaths. Not before.
⭐️ Why This Actually Works (Science + Mom Truths)
This habit works because it:
✦ Lowers cortisol
Sunlight + breathing = calmer nervous system.
✦ Creates a micro-boundary
You get one quiet moment before the world needs you.
✦ Sets the tone for the whole day
If your morning begins chaotic, your brain stays in chaos mode.
✦ Gives you a feeling of control
Even if it’s tiny, that one intentional act feels like YOU again.
✦ Breaks the overstimulation cycle
You shift out of reactive “go go go” mode and into “I can handle this” mode.
⭐️ If you try anything this week… try this.
I know habits can feel overwhelming. But this one is simple, doable, and honestly feels like a breath of air (literally).
You deserve a moment that belongs to you. Not your to do list.
If you try this, tag me or DM me. I love seeing other moms, creators, pe
t parents, and rural living girlies reclaim even 3 minutes of peace.
